If you wish to borrow books from the library or wish to become part of the Library Committee or simply would like to help as a volunteer, please contact Albert Spekman, or simply come during bookstore hours and speak with Sylvia Mandel.

The use of the library is free to current members.

The library places over 2,000 books at your disposal. They are arranged into two sections: books by Rudolf Steiner arranged by title, and books by other authors arranged by author. We are proud to offer you a great selection of titles on varied themes: Esoteric Studies, Meditation, Inner Development, Reincarnation and Karma, Life after Death, Social Renewal, the Gospels, Nature and Biodynamics, and the Arts. We invite you to make use of this valuable resource.

Anthroposophy Down to Basics

A new series began March 7th...

While anthroposophy engages the most basic and intimate aspects of our lives, “anthroposophy made simple” is simply not anthroposophy. The vastness of anthroposophy’s reach and the depth of its currents can often be daunting and problematic. This course addresses fundamental concepts and practices in six evenings and a Saturday workshop. Come when you can: each stands alone.

Remaining programs: Wednesdays 7pm, 5/2 Evolution (But No Gorillas), 5/9 The Cosmic Christ, and Saturday, May 19, 1:30-4:30pm: The Christmas Foundation Mantram, continued..

The Basics Team: Evening sessions will be presented by a team of individuals who have worked with anthroposophy over many years. They include: Walter Alexander, Phoebe Alexander, David Anderson, George Centanni, Fred Dennehy, Carole Johnson, Cynthia Lang, Daniel Mackenzie, Shaunaq Puri, Joyce Reilly, and Doug Safranek.


Jonathan Stedall has completed his documentary on Rudolf Steiner, and even the trailer is a wonderful, an eloquent six minute summary of Steiner's work.

THEME OF THE YEAR 2011-2012

The General Anthroposophical Society’s annual theme 2011/12 explores Christian Rosenkreutz, one of the greatest esoteric teachers of the Occident. Sergei Prokofieff looks at the importance of Christian Rosenkreutz for the potential appearance of the etheric Christ and at his relationship to Rudolf Steiner. Letter To Society Members

Dear Friends,
Beyond offering an opportunity to participate with other members in branch life, Members’ Evenings provide a means to participate in a world-wide movement through work with the annual theme suggested by the executive council (Vorstand) at the Goetheanum. Insights coming out of anthroposophy show that when many over the world are able to form one body of thought in this way, a powerful spiritual organism is being created, one which both unites and inspires those who contribute their earnest effort.

Members’ Evenings also offer the essential ingredient of social life with other like-minded individuals. Our developing individualities are guided by angel beings along life paths that unfold through the laws of karma. Beyond angels in the spiritual world are the archangels, higher beings who work with groups and nations, and who work from soul to soul. We broaden our being when we work with the archangels. Although it is possible through individual study to raise ourselves to very high level in the spirit, without communion with others of like mind, we remain cramped and contracted. The ego can suffocate without this breathing from soul to soul. Joining in a circle of souls within a network or archangelic organization is the next step beyond personal cultivation of spirit.

Valuing and living in the themes together constitutes a spiritual breathing that moves over the earth and through the heavens. This can fill the individual with a powerful communion, inspiring and expanding the ego into love. This love is a fiery word that speaks to members who participate in the stream coming from the theme of the year.
